Thursday, 04 September 2008

HAS MANNY “THE FIGHTER” RETIRED? San Francisco, CA- You can look at the now signed Manny Pacquiao-Oscar De La Hoya encounter (notice I didn’t say “fight”) in two distinctly different ways. The first being the positive in that Pacquiao, a fighter that has fought from 107 to 135 lbs., is following in the mold of a Roberto Duran, against say a Marvin Hagler, as he will face a seemingly

Y'know what I used to hate as a kid? It was the middle part of August - during your summer vacation - and you'd start to see the 'Back to School' commercials on television. Written by Recah Trinidad, Philippine Daily Inquirer
Tuesday, 02 September 2008

MANILA, Philippines—Freddie Roach punched hard and scored when he swore that Manny Pacquiao, though smaller, will be stronger and faster than the taller Oscar De La Hoya. Roach may indeed have a point in declaring that the Golden Boy could

Before Oscar De La Hoya, Manny Pacquiao, Richard Schaefer, Bob Arum and HBO pay-per-view even begin dividing up what potentially looms as a $100 million pie, each and every one of them should give credit where credit is due and cut Freddie Roach in on the action. And Larry Merchant, too, while they’re at it.  The idea of a David-Goliath bout that would stretch across multiple

What's more important: the honor or the cash?
Written by David P. Greisman, BoxingScene.com
Wednesday, 20 August 2008

Upward mobility has brought fighters out of poverty and beyond adversity, taking them to a world where fame is measured by fortune, where seven-digit paydays are the ideal, each additional zero demonstrating how far they have come from when they had nothing. On their way up they were hungry — for change, for accomplishment, for rising as high as their fists, wits, determination and

Three weekends back the boxing world was given the pleasure of watching Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto engage in a bloody and thrilling battle that will be talked about by fans and writers a like for many years to come. The fight for the WBA welterweight title came at just the right time as the two preceding weekends had been far from electrifying. There is a fifth, or sixth (I don’t really know offhand. I’m really tired)…dimension, beyond that which is known to crazy people who see things. It is a dimension as vast as space (or Dan Stricker’s ass. You’d have to know the guy) and as timeless as a discussion with my ex-mother-in-law. That’s pretty much infinity in itself. L It is the middle ground between light and shadow; between science and superstition (Stevie Wonder or Stevie Ray Vaughan. Take your pick…Huh. TWO Stevies doing ‘Superstition’…nice), and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge; which in
